IDvet is pleased to announce the launch of its new serological test for the detection of Strangles in horses, the ID Screen® Strangles Double Antigen ELISA

Strangles is a highly contagious bacterial infection of equids caused by Streptococcus equi subspecies equi. It affects the upper respiratory tract, causing fever, severe rhinitis with nasal discharge, anorexia and lymph node abscessation.
Chronics carriers are the main source of infection if they stay undetected at introduction in a new herd.
This new ELISA may be used:
- To identify infected horses, including asymptomatic or chronic carriers without the need for invasive procedures such as guttural pouch lavage.
- To determine prevalence of infection and conduct disease management.
- To demonstrate freedom of infection for individual animals prior to movement or sale.
The kit detects antibodies against proteins A and C in the same well, and shows excellent diagnostic performance combined with optimal repeatability and stability.
With its easy and fast protocol, this new ELISA is the most user-friendly test available for Strangles serology.
